La Feria, Texas is centrally located in the Lower Rio Grande Valley of South Texas.
The tropical climate of this region makes it a popular vacation spot all year long. Visitors enjoy the many nature refuges and bird sanctuaries located throughout the region. There are many festivals celebrating the rich history of the area, dating back to the 1600s when Spanish missionaries first began exploring the area. At that time the region was a vast grassland spotted with mesquite and prickly pear cactus.
The Lower Rio Grande Valley was divided into land grants by the king of Spain in the 1700s. In 1777 the La Feria land grant was assigned to Rosa María Hinojosa de Ballí.
The town of La Feria was developed in 1909 by a local land developer, G. J. Schoenberg.
In 2017 the population of La Feria was a little over 8000 people.
La Feria Nature Center is only two miles south of Mesquite RV Park.
